Stanley Park
This Canadian city is known for its affinity for the outdoors and Stanley Park is one of the major contributors to creating a friendly, active environment. Covering over 1,000 acres, there is something to do for everyone. The park was first opened in 1888 by, then mayor, David Oppenheimer. Over 8 million people visit this park each year and it is North America’s 3rd largest urban core park. Of the many things to see in this park, the beautiful gardens are one of the most notable. In addition to the city-managed gardens such as the Shakespeare and Ted and Mary Greig Rhododendron Gardens, there is a community garden with plots kept up by local residents. The park hosts a range of art exhibits throughout the year, especially during the summer when the weather is nice. Theatre Under the Stars is a yearly summer tradition, with performances taking place inside the Malkin Bowl, located in the park. The Painters’ Circle is also held in the park, where artists create and display their works, which are for sale. Portraits and caricatures are also offered to passerby, a great souvenir of your time in the area.Numerous dining venues allow you to spend the entire day here if you choose. Start the day off with lunch before you stroll around the lovely park grounds, or end your day of adventure with dinner at places such s The Fish House, or The Teahouse. One of the most notable features of Stanley Park is the 13.7-mile-long seawall. This path, which runs along Burrard Inlet and False Creek, is perfect for jogging, cycling or skating. The seawall has been a working progress since 1917 and was finally completed in 1980, but continues to expand outside of the park.
